The Renata Project is an alternative transportation concept that will change how we live, how we travel and provide a positive direction for a sustainable environment.

With our current city designs, we need to go a variety of directions and relatively long distances each day which creates a necessity for individual motorized transportation.  Transit systems, walking and cycling offer a solution for some, but even these are curtailed by the necessary accommodation of motor transport.

We have an opportunity now, to build a different type of community in our new developments.  These areas will use an improved rail system for primary transportation instead of cars and trucks.

If we build these new communities or ‘satellite cities' of about 20,000 people on a linear plan, and provide most of our services like schools, recreation, shopping, healthcare and commercial enterprises we will eliminate the need for most residents to leave this area for their daily duties.

Why we need Satellite Cities              (see videos for Satellite City design)

Transportation is central to everything we do.  To be competitive in a future world economy it is essential to have High Speed Rail.  But, for that High Speed Rail system to be viable, we first need a different, but compatible rail network at each city.  This local development would be a ‘Renata satellite city' and there would be several satellite cities near populations of 1 million or more.

This is complex at first glance, but practical and necessary.

Small individual rail cars that are run automatically will allow us to move more independently because of departure frequency.  In this perspective too, freight movement becomes attractive.  With a rail line through or near businesses, there will be a significant amount of high tariff freight that can be moved quickly and efficiently.  Passenger rail-cars will always have priority, but freight will continue to pay a larger portion of the costs as more cities come on line.  With fewer personnel and automation it is practical to move most freight at night or any non-busy passenger times.

Future transportation must soon be cleaner, more efficient, more direct, safer, faster, less stressful, and haul everything from food to furniture and people.

Land use may not be the top of everyone`s environmental concerns, but it is a very serious matter.  Our indiscriminate consumption of land for transportation and parking is not sustainable.  Something different is needed.

There are two guiding principles to keep in mind,

1. Our rail system needs to replace cars and trucks, not airplanes.

2. We build the city to service the rail, not the rail to service the city.
